About the Health & Disability System Review (HDSR) category

This is a publicly visible category, to promote constructive discussions around the changes occurring in the Aotearoa New Zealand’s health sector, as a result of the Health & System Disability Review. Please only post what you are able and comfortable posting publicly (e.g., media can view this discussion, too.) Private discussions among health professionals can continue by Log In in to Health Forum NZ. This public forum will be moderated, and suggestions may be posted when a discussion might be better moved to a private forum.

Anyone can read the posts here, but to reply and contribute, you will need to create an account that has the required fields for a username, email address, password, contact number, and your ethnicity. You will be asked to verify your email address, to activate the account. This process can take a few minutes, or even 30mins, depending on your email server.

The information you supply will be kept confidential, on this securely hosted platform. The purpose for the information requested is:

  • Username - This is name that will be publicly linked to posts you make.
  • Email/contact number - This information will be kept confidential, with only moderators of this site having access to these details. The purpose of having this information is in case you need to be contacted outside of this platform, in relation to your account here. These are standard information requests for online platform usage and help ensure users are authentic.
  • Password - This is only known to you, and is to access your account.
  • Ethnicity - Data is a living tāonga that is of strategic value. For example, Māori data refers to data produced by Māori or that is about Māori and the environments Māori have relationships with. Such data can only be identified by collecting self-identified ethnicity information. As Māori data is subject to the rights articulated in the Treaty of Waitangi and the UN’s Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples, to which Aotearoa New Zealand is a signatory, Māori data collected on healthforum.nz will be used according to the principles of the Te Mana Raraunga Charter.

Please send an email to healthforumnz@gmail.com if you are having difficulties or queries.

  • Why should people use this category? What is it for?
As we reflect on the advice and findings of the HSDR, implementing a better system requires wide discourse to better inform decision-makers and ensure we all have a place to voice our opinions, questions, and thoughts. This is a national forum for this discussion to be had digitally.

  • How exactly is this different than the other categories we already have?
This category will be the first public category on HFNZ, so how this works remains to be seen.

  • What should topics in this category generally contain?
Please post, and reply to, topics relevant to the HDSR. Specifically, it would make sense to reference particular sections of the review to discuss, through links. Of course, the Review draws on many other health sector documents, which may also be of interest to discuss in relation to the HDSR.

  • Do we need this category? Can we merge with another category, or subcategory?
As the impact of the HDSR becomes more clear, the discussions generated here may not be relevant any longer, so may be archived or merged with other discussions occurring within HFNZ. Whether a public category remains permanent, is also for discussion.

We look forward to your thoughts and input!
